News from the Elementary Art Room!

The new year brings new projects in Ms. Baillod’s art room. The 3rd graders learned about Native American dreamcatchers while weaving on old CDs. The yarn was interwoven to create the “web” that catches bad dreams, while the feathers carry happy thoughts into one’s sleep.

4th graders created color prints of their favorite foods; now they understand that printmaking means you can make more than one of an image… and who wouldn’t want more of their favorite foods?!

5th graders are finishing up a kinetic art project called an “Agamograph” created by Israeli artist Yaacov Agam. Kinetic art means there is actual movement in a piece; in this case, the viewer must move from one side of the work to the other to see the 2 images. Students chose opposing imagery like sunrise vs sunset (as shown in the picture), rival sports teams, even video games they like vs. dislike.

All the students cannot wait to take their creations home after displaying them proudly at the art show in May!a
